Women occupy a prominent place in the Scriptures. There is Eve, the mother of all living, whose disobedience in the Garden resulted in the downfall of her husband, and through him, of mankind. There is Lot's wife, who, through the love of the world, destroyed herself. There is the Queen of Sheba, who traveled from distant lands to witness first-hand the wisdom of the King of Israel. There is Esther, who overcame her timidity and risked her life to intercede for her people. There is Mary, the mother of Jesus, whose humble spirit and simple faith are a timeless model of godliness for all Christian women. Solomon wrote of the virtuous woman who blesses her husband and is honored by her children; he also wrote of the licentious woman whose house of sin is the doorway to death. The Bible is filled with exhortations to Christian girls and women to emulate the former and to abhor the latter and this volume is a helpful compilation of examples of both.
